The Late Paintings that Warhol created in the final years of his life, are magnificent examples of the vivid dialogue with advertising culture that lay at the heart of his practice. Warhol re-visited the advertising imagery and black-and-white palette of his earliest Pop canvases of the ’60s. The rough-hewn edges, loosely rendered imagery, and unpolished aesthetic of his Late Paintings recalls the hand-painted canvases he produced at the start of his career, such as his seminal Coca Cola [2] (1961).
