Eric Stefanski's "5 cards" presents a quintet of intimate canvases, each bearing the weight of language stripped to its barest emotional architecture. Rendered in oil, these works continue Stefanski's ongoing investigation into text as both image and artifact, where words become visual presences rather than mere carriers of meaning. Each 20 x 16 inch panel operates as a discrete meditation, yet together they form a loose narrative sequence—five moments of articulation that speak to cycles of connection, loss, and the things we struggle to say. The surfaces carry Stefanski's characteristic approach to painted language: letters and phrases emerge through layered grounds, sometimes crisp and declarative, other times dissolving at their edges as if caught mid-evaporation. The scale suggests intimacy, something held close rather than proclaimed. There is a quietness here, a sense of words whispered rather than shouted, of messages meant for specific recipients who may or may not receive them. Within Stefanski's broader practice, "5 cards" extends his commitment to treating text as emotional residue—the trace left behind after feeling has passed through. These are not illustrations of sentiment but its physical remainder, paint and word fused into single objects that resist easy categorization. The option to acquire the works individually or as a complete set speaks to their dual nature: each canvas stands alone as a self-contained statement, yet their full resonance emerges in conversation with one another, five voices forming a chorus of restrained intensity.
