About the Series

Sultan's Blues and Silvers works explore the intersection of his floral imagery with a cooler, more restrained palette. The blue and silver tones lend these pieces a nocturnal quality — flowers caught in low light, their forms simplified to near-abstraction.

The series includes both single-colour works and more complex multi-register compositions that demonstrate Sultan's ability to use colour temperature to radically alter the emotional register of familiar subjects. The Blues and Blacks works — with their confrontational contrast — are among his most formally powerful print editions.
