“Saravejo” references the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which serves as their political and cultural center. In 1914, the city was the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the cataclysmic event which would bring forth World War I. The present lot ascribes to Twombly’s aesthetic of calligraphic scribbles set against monochromatic backgrounds.
