LURE, presented by Guy Hepner and curated by The TAX Collection, is a one-of-a-kind collaborative exhibition by renowned visual artists Dan Lam and John Foster, opening Thursday May 11th at 7pm.
This dual exhibit seeks to pair unlikely combinations of textures and aesthetics, resulting in visually stunning pieces that are cementing a place for themselves in today’s contemporary art scene. Inspired by their unique perspectives from growing up on the cusp of Millennial and Pre-Millennial generations, their joint works underline the very fabric of today’s youth culture and explore the nuanced differences between aesthetic and substance.
LURE, while featuring independent works from both artists, ultimately culminates into a passionate juxtaposition of textures and mediums represented in the unique collaborative works created exclusively for Guy Hepner.
Originally from the Central Valley of California, John relocated to Minneapolis in 2006, site unseen, to pursue a career in the vibrant art community where he earned his BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies/Sculpture from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2012.
“My studio practice embraces various formal and situational strategies, a synthesis of sculpture, photography, mixed media, and performance. My goal is to construct and survey phantasmal, liminal space, bringing the viewer into micro-utopic moment. I create multidimensional works that resonate in physical, digital, and emotional space, objects that blur the lines between hyper real and abstract.” – John Foster
Dan Lam was born in Manila, Philippines at a refugee camp – a stop in her family’s long journey from Vietnam to the US. She was raised in Texas where she received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of North Texas in 2010. She received her Masters in Fine Arts in 2014 from Arizona State University.
Lam’s work is currently showing all over the country, with upcoming shows in Denver, CO and Portland, OR. Internationally, she will be showcasing her work at Scope in Switzerland. The artist’s work is collected by many, including Miley Cyrus, Lily Aldridge, Gigi Hadid, and the Tisch family.
LURE will be on view at Guy Hepner NYC from May 11th, with unique artworks and sculptures for sale. Guy Hepner is open to the public Monday– Friday 10am-5pm, and via appointment at all other times. Please joon us for the opening reception on May 11th.
