Introducing Juliano Mazzuchini
Guy Hepner is pleased to offer original paintings from Brazilian artist Juliano Mazzuchini.
Born in Brazil, Mazzuchini’s background is in performing arts where he used the physical body to express human emotion and personal motivation. Recently crossing over to visual arts, specifically painting, has allowed Mazzuchini to continue to develop his research into how we express ourselves through movement, gesture and body composition, but now in a 2D form.
Visually, Mazzuchini is inspired by the Renaissance Masters including Rembrandt and Velásquez. He initially developed his style to reference their use of figure composition and perspective drawing. Today, he has taken his portraits one step further. Mazzuchini now works more inline with Impressionism as he expertly uses gestural strokes to portray human movement and feeling.
“My painting process crosses photography and, in the context of the pandemic, I started to build images that I call “pre-painting” by photographing my own body, borrowing myself to build the scene & gesture to be painted.”
“This procedure becomes a constant in my process, thus creating a connection between my previous experience in performing arts with my current production in the visual arts, constituting a performance for my paintings, as an actor-painter in a paratheatre.”
