Far From Home
An Immersive Installation By Brock DeBoer
Brock DeBoer’s artistic process as a ceramic sculptor utilizes porcelain, historical motifs, and surface treatments to re-contextualize everyday objects, items from his past, and mementos of popular culture.
Many are highly nostalgic to his generation and beyond, touching on a multitude of facets of everyday life. DeBoer’s casts in porcelain become archival, altering their permanence while questioning the value of these items themselves.
Drawing influence from his midwestern upbringing, combined with the vastly diverse landscape of Los Angeles and the rural topography of Joshua Tree where he currently lives and works, Far From Home visually narrates DeBoer’s journey as an architect of sentimentality – taking the viewer on a walk in his shoes.
