Ruby Anemic’s body of work is one that may be definitive of the post-modern artistic sensibility. Taking his pick of contemporary cultural references and other ubiquitous objects or phrases, Anemic’s work “speaks for itself,” as he intends it, and simultaneously speaks to a definition of modern-day life in a broader sense. Heavily reliant on text, especially in the neon sculptures for which Anemic may be best known, Anemic’s work provides a witty, bordering on sarcastic, look at the way people interact with one another and with their environment.

In addition to the neons, Ruby Anemic works across a number of media, using materials ranging from found objects, canvas, and video throughout his oeuvre. Ruby Anemic’s work, whether text-based, photographic, or geometric, lends itself not only to the artist’s interpretation, but also to the multiplicity of interpretations that each person will bring to it. This dynamism is, in fact, what the artist most hopes to achieve. Anemic’s art is, regardless of medium, always the result of his key inspiration: life itself, something that is in constant flux and unique to each individual; his work is an intuitive response to the world around him and provides a compelling lens with which others can view it.

Ruby Anemic was born in Berlin in 1975. He has exhibited widely throughout Europe and the United States. His work is included in a number of prominent private collections, as well as in the Daimler Contemporary Collection (Berlin) and the Angel Collection of Contemporary Art (Tel Aviv). His latest exhibitions at De Buck Gallery included the 2012 You Can Have It All and 2014’s Slower Than God. Ruby currently lives and works in Berlin.

Ruby Anemic is exhibiting in “Clairvoyance”, a collaborative exhibition between Guy Hepner and AXD. The third exhibition of this collective series, the exhibition presents a collection of the most trending artists currently online, and explore the current fascination of social media, technology and the contemporary artist.
