- Poke is part of the mushroom series of prints begun by Murakami in 1998. They are an interpretation of Murakami's fusion between popular western culture and Japanese manga and anime, with emphasis placed on the use of the superflat technique, one which mimics the ancient Japanese painting technique of panel and screen painters of the 16th century. Currently there are ten pieces in the mushroom series, the Poke and Guru Guru pieces are classified as a pair.
