Helmut Newton “Big Nudes” Available
Apr 24th, 2009
Helmut Newton’s collection “Big Nudes” is now available through Guy Hepner. These silver gelatin prints of nude women, emote a feeling of strength from the women, putting their nudity out there on display for the viewer, rather than hidden away in any type of positioning or posing. His subjects of beautiful women that aren’t the typical “perfect woman,” make this collection unique and eye catching. This series of black and white photos produced between 1979 and 1981 are a perfect example of Helmut Newton’s classic work.
Helmut Newton, born in Berlin, Germany, was interned in a concentration camp for a short period of time in his life, and after being released in 1942, began his career as a fashion photographer. He traveled the world and worked for such magazines as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Playboy. His most widely recognized book, Sumo, is a tribute to Helmut’s work of the 20th century, and was edited by June Newton, giving his fans a glimpse of his work from fashion photography, to his nudes and celebrity portraits.
