MARILYN MINTER

Marilyn Minter's photographs and works are often sexual and erotic and her method of painting often incorporates many coats of translucent enamel paint on metal to create an almost hallucinatory finished product. She graduated with a Master of fine arts degree at Syracuse University in 1976, but had already created a series of photographic masterpieces, depicting her drug-addicted mother, as the model, which has become on of her most praised collections of work. She has created numerous collections with sexual and pornographic themes. Her 1989 series of work was based around hardcore pornography, and continued on to the 1990's when she created her television ad, 100 Food Porn, but since then her work has slowly moved towards a more glamorous and high-fashion feel with less graphic imagery, yet still displaying pornographic undertones. Minter is known for her ability to take many photographs in order to create a painting, however sometimes these photographs are left as they are. She never uses graphic-editing programs to change or crop her images, instead she uses different aspects of the photograph to create her painting.
